At least where I grew up the front lights for your house was the signal. If you kept your front lights on you had candy. Naturally my lights now stay off but I will still get a nigger or two that don't live in the neighborhood and don't even have a costume try and beg for some.
I let my black labrador bark at then till they leave. You would think they have an affinity for a black dog but they don't. They always depart quickly.
