This is true about so many things. I have been a teacher of various things myself. If you're anything like me, you WANT people to learn and to be good. It's a bit selfish, really. The bell curve is an undeniable reality. You go into each setting, with every kind of a person, and you keep your mind as wide and as open as the ocean- you have to force this perspective upon yourself, every time- and every time, you find the same result from the same kinds of people. "Maybe it's me" you think. Because sometimes you can tell somebody something, and it doesn't click, so you demonstrate it or tell it in another way, and that dawn of understanding lights up their eyes. It just doesn't happen as often with the black students. What's sad is I worked with people who WANTED to learn. Who were TRYING. They just couldn't do it.
