the university course I did on international relations included profs and lessons on Machiavelli, as well as whole line of philosophers start from Plato, Aristotle, to John Locke, Marx, and others. The whole point of the course was to trace the whole history of political thought from start to finish, in order to understand the difference between Realism and Idealism in international politics.
