USfag in Germland here.
My dad was a welder for most of his life.
Before he retired 15 years ago now, he bitched about how it was impossible to find americans who wanted to weld, and the american blacks were the worst because they'd take the job, find out how hard it is, and then quit.
So as a result his company had to hire mostly mexicans and el salvadorans.
At the time I thought "Well obviously he's right, and that's what both Fox and CNN say so whatever."
Only years later did I realize, his issue was that Americans don't want to take a hard as fuck job just to only make enough that they still need to work overtime every day, or have a second job, to be able to afford a house/family.
Which in that part of the US, it was well known you either had two full time workers in your household, or a master's degree if you didn't want to be in a shit apartment (or live out in the shitlands).
Hell my dad was one of the people who worked overtime every day of his life and worked weekends, and that's why these days he can barely move and has all sorts of lung/eye problems.
And he still had months where he could barely afford the bills.
