The Russian oil and gas company Lukoil has declared force majeure at the West Qurna-2 oil field in Iraq - one of the world's largest oilfields, Reuters reports.
Iraqi authorities have halted all cash and crude payments to the company.
If the reasons behind the force majeure are not resolved within six months, Lukoil will shut production and exit the project entirely, a senior Iraqi oil industry official said.
The West Qurna-2 field is one of Lukoil’s key foreign assets, with reserves estimated at tens of billions of barrels of oil.
