A new joint report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Cristosal (a human rights group focused on Central America) confirms 250+ Venezuelan men deported by DJT to El Salvador in early 2025 were subjected to daily beatings, sexual violence, and psychological torture at President Nayib Bukele’s infamous CECOT “mega-prison.”
At the beginning of DJT’s immigration crackdown, you would recall he flew hundreds of Venezuelan migrants to the infamous Salvadoran Terrorism Confinement Center, aka CECOT.
They were held for 4+ months without communication with their families and lawyers, despite the fact that most of the men had no serious criminal history in the US, or elsewhere.
What they did have were tattoos that bore no relation to any gang. Regardless, the US had accused the men of being members of the transnational gang Tren de Aragua and removed most of them from the US under the Alien Enemies Act—an 18th-century law that DJT has invoked for only the 4th time in our history.
