When a Norseman dies he goes on a long spirit journey to the cold north, to the Helthing to be judged by the gods who ride there each night to pronounce judgement on the masses of the silent dead. Those who die in battle and are chosen by Odin are picked up directly from the battlefield and taken to Valhöl instead.
Most of our folk who lived good lives go to Sessrumnir or Folkvangr to be with the spirits of their kin and ancestors.
Some are sentenced to Niflhel for their heinous crimes to be meted out.
From there you can go many places after enough "time" has passed
