AEW was/is the cool kids private playground. It was taking these Indy guys and giving them a massive cash injection, making them not have to worry about money or bookings anymore and letting them do whatever they want. Punk is a hard guy to get along with in general. Almost a decade away didn’t change that. The thing is the Boss (Tony) the man who cuts the checks unconditionally loves Punk. It’s his wrestling hero. This made the EVP’s nervous because Punk is the sort of asshole who walks into a room and starts saying things like
>so here’s how this is gonna go
He was upsetting the apple cart. Punk needed money bad. He failed at every thing he tried to do outside of wrestling. He doesn’t want to wrestle. So he set out trying to consolidate power right away. Tony’s boner for him made the EVP’s very nervous because Punk’s plan was working. Even after the fight, to placate Punk he got his own show basically, which he had been angling for right out of the gate. Also, Colt Cabana made money for a lot of these guys slinging T-Shirts and giving them platforms on his show. That caused some heat right there.

tl;dr Tiny had a boner for Punk and it made the EVP’s scared that things would chang and the money mark would take away some of their power.
