Back in the day, you could be a complete bore but have a full career run in wrestling as long as you didn't do a bunch of stupid bullshit. Like a guy who just punched and headlocked his way though his matches was more desirable than a guy who could do all sorts of athletics but had gaps in believability. No one gave a shit if you could flip if in order to get there you had to do a bunch of kayfabe breaking cooperations.
Given the current state of every promotion's in ring product I feel like it was better back then. I'd rather sit though a Greg Valentine house show match than watch guys wait around to get dived on just for the dive to still miss and for them to bump off it regardless.
