>Finish scouting the district. You've charted out a good amount of its ring-shaped boundaries, but you haven't been able to finish gathering topography data. Stopping to smell the roses for Phascomon's sake has slowed you down a bit, and you'd like to make up for lost time.
You're almost done, you shouldn't change your mind at the last minute. You continue walking across the last segment of the financial district. There's a large water fountain in this wedge, with marble statues of ancient animals spitting digitized liquid into a pool. Some salarymen are taking breaks by the fountain, and a bot is selling ice cream.
"Is that a Digimon?"
"No, just an old Earth animal. It's a bull."
"Does it spit water in the real world?"
"Nope, I don't think so."
You settle down by the plaza, where you can get a good look at the buildings around you. A visual scan is enough to pick up on them, and you finish adding them to your map. While you're here, you order some ice cream and get a different flavor for Phascomon this time. He absolutely adores the double chocolate scoop you send into the Digivice. While you enjoy your own, you silently watch the people passing by, while smelling the fruity notes from the brightly-colored cigarettes they're inhaling.
This part of town is peaceful. The few workers who have decided to skive in the middle of the day are getting to enjoy time alone, with only a handful of others scattered around the square; yourself included. The spotlights from up above illuminate the fountain fully. While it's nothing much to look at, the atmosphere puts you at ease. If you were willing to come to this district more often, this might end up being one of your preferred spots.
"Nice, huh?"
"Yeah. No bots to worry about, apart from the ice cream truck. No crowds."
"Hey, when people lived back in the real world, what did they do all they? This too?"
"They had to have jobs. This whole place is a kind of... parody of it. Whatever people were doing, it had a real impact on their surroundings. Engineers were ACTUALLY fixing things, and not just being told they were repairing gears. Food couldn't just be coded or grown in the Digifarm, people had to grow it from the ground."
"This seems a lot easier. Do puzzles, or even do nothing, and still get fed. It's enough for them, that's for sure."
"Not for me. I've ditched the easy road long ago."
"I know. When you go out there, you're going to be facing more hardship than you've ever felt in here, you're certain about that, right?"
It terrifies you, but you know you have to do it.
"I'm certain."
