Much of your life is decided by genetics and factors outside of your control, such as who you parents are and where you grow up. This is true.
However, life is, to a large extent, what you make of it. Especially as an adult.
Life as a kid and teenager was beyond miserable. I had a habit of holding a knife to my throat and running through the pros and cons when I was young because I had no control over my life. I know that I was dealt a shit hand growing up. Dirt poor, immigrant background, little affection from my parents, and was raised to be a sissy pushover by my mom and sisters because my father was functionally absent from my life. Despite all of this, once you make it to adulthood, things get better. You have the ability to change your behavior, your personality. You MUST sit down and think about your life. What went wrong? What is within your control? Change that what you can.
Those things that cannot be changed about yourself are unfortunate, but the vast majority of humans alive have more than a few things they cannot change about themselves that they'd like to change. What is important is to seek out other people who have also done this self-reflection to better themselves and accept what they cannot change, and can accept that which others cannot change about themselves.
