I see this sort of mentality among very poor people/outright dossers a surprising amount. Simply refuse to buy anything other than premium food or other things. I honestly can't explain it. I think for some it's a deep rooted hangup about not being successful, so they try to compensate buy buying the most expensive versions of the things they get anyway even if it's inherently poor/low class.
>Yeah mate I eat nothing but oven pizzas, but at least I don't get the cheap ones!
Really pathetic.

I knew one guy, dosser his entire life, never had a job and in his mid 50s. His mum died and left him and his brother some money. It was in theory enough to live frugally on for a good while if not the rest of his life when combined with his eventual pension. Problem was that he would have to get a small one bed flat and he simply refused. He ended up renting a three bed house and blew through his money in a couple years through spending it like crazy, leaving him with nothing again. He was more concerned with what his dosser mates at the pub would think of him not living in a three bed house and not having a new car etc. than keeping the money going and living reasonably comfortably.
