In ye olden days average lifespan was 19 years old and if you ever scraped your knee or got a cut you just died then and there on the spot because no doctors. We're medieval equivalent of centenarians since we're 30-something. Literally unheard of back then. Everyone was always sad because of allergies and no Flonase, zirtec, or hepa air filters. Everyone stinky with dry skin because no deodorant or lotion. Bored as shit because the library has only two books and they're chained to the desk because they literally handwrite every copy and a book cost five years wages. The two books? Le Bible and Le Bible but in Latin. No exotic food and spices. Just potatoes, parsnips, turnips, and squash. Maybe rye bread if you were a noble. Want to vacation? Only a week on horseback to travel what takes a car an hour. Salt is worth it's weight in gold and there's literal arrr matey peg leg and parrot on the shoulder pirates to contend with if you want something crazy like black pepper or cumin. Want a job? You're a blacksmith making nails and horseshoes just like your father who was just like his father who was just like his father who... It's winter time and tummy makes a rumbly? Better bundle up in your furs because it's 0 degrees outside and two feet of snow to contend with on your way to the outhouse.
