My brother worked in a hospital on the Rez, they had a million and one unwritten rules of not what to say or do. The one that sticks with me is that a pregnant woman can not do any darning or sewing, lest the baby be born with a permanently closed eye or mouth. He was there 5 years before they let him in on their lore.
