I dont know about "republicans", thats a pretty broad category, you can find all sorts of people that encompass that label. But specifically the hard right is a fundamentally anti-human movement, they lack the kinds of things that make civilization possible like honor and empathy.
And its always been this way, its very easy for instance for someone here to justify murdering a baby if they were really pressed, as long as you invoke the right symbolic identities. "Well those mexicans/illegals/browns shouldnt have come here if they didnt want it to happen", theirs something fundamentally blocking them from seeing another human being be hurt or die and have an emotional response from it thats built in. Their desires are being moved by the signifiers; they enjoy hearing about how many browns and undesirables are being removed everyday, because their mind has placed those identities in a way that getting rid of x will bring the good outcome.
