Smartphones were a big leap too. Even the most obsessed people could at max spend 6 hours a day on the computer on schooldays, now everyone is connected to the internet every waking moment. You never really feel 'offline now' because you get notifications and can choose to pick up your phone at a moment's notice. The internet overall felt a lot better where it was a community of a small minority.
Unfortauntely baring a solar flare we can never go back.
