They aren't tricked, Muslims just don't want their daughters marrying ANYBODY who isn't a muslim, and their criteria for who is a muslim is pretty loose. They also really don't care if you pray or not or go to mosque.
A muslim is literally anybody who has said the Shahada, and that's it. You don't even need a baptism or other weird rituals like in Catholicism.
