Well they are conservatives in every way except for their homoerotic desires, of course they wouldn't want queerness of any kind in schools, doesn't matter if it's not explicit or sexual. They simply want kids to grow up thinking gayness is something strange, alienating, taboo and divisive.
It's internalized homophobia through and through. They suffered with homophobia and struggled with self acceptance in school and they want the new generation of gay kids to go through that hell too. It's very selfish and ignorant, but don't be too hasty to judge them. They're hurt gays clinging to their chains. All of us have been there, once. Some never escape that mindset.
