At that time, the minimum FEDERAL wage was $50/hr scaled for inflation according to the price of gold at the time. That was the buying power, $50/hr if you worked a MINIMUM wage job.
But now, the rich pay $0 in taxes. Because of laws passed over the years. The trickle down effect doesn't work. The real trickle down was taxing them. The rich now just move to Puerto Rico to pay $0 in capital gains taxes. As well as other stupid loopholes. Amazon has paid $0 in taxes in the last several years. So many companies pay $0 in taxes.
