I'm a 5'10 moid but I used to weigh 500 pounds and I've lost more than 200. Drinking water like >>82495270 said is a good idea, but don't fall for the trick of exercise - no matter how hard you try you can always eat more calories than you burn. What you really need is to find a way to stay motivated. Something to work towards, something to fight against, someone to do it for. Some diets are more or less effective or might just fit your lifestyle better, but it won't matter if you can't stay motivated.

I'd recommend looking for a guy who is also trying to lose weight and working together to accomplish your goals. If you can motivate each other it will make things far easier.
