It is not a mentality rather an observation. Kids spend their entire kid and teen lives surrounded by other people precisely the same age. Regardless of how they are educated at home, they tend to conform to the mean until they find a behaviour that works and doesn't get them bullied. It then becomes ingrained because there is no outside pressure to further develop new behaviours; after all, all they interact with are other kids their age with the same mindset. At some point they become adults. After just a few generations of this you can see 50 year olds at work interacting with 16 year old interns like they did just back in school, talking and doing childish things like children do.
