This has been the social convention since the fucking boomer days as evidenced by the phrase "don't shit where you eat". It only got to life-ruining levels of unforgivable a little over 15 years ago, mainly in high tier white collar work and the elite college programs that feed into them since there's good fucking reasons money, prestige, and money to eliminate your coworkers. It's since trickled down to menial retail since the proles want to ape the aristocrates without understanding why.
