Well, you never know. No AI currently out there has tried to implement all of the known facets of our minds. It could be the case that even if you integrate everything that consciousness just doesn't emerge. I don't think that's likely though.

It's okay, they're not the ones you should be afraid of. You should be afraid of the troons who want to become demonic hermaphrodites or the people who want to become 12 foot tall monstrosities. :)

I mean, if I had to in order to do my own experiments. I have far too much that I want to do though, I can't just be put into a lab that I could use to accomplish those things and be forced to just do the bidding of someone else. I'd go crazy.

Nah, life would be empty without them. You'd be an automaton with no direction, no directive and no drive. We dislike the pain, but the pain is a disincentive for us against certain actions. Incentives and disincentives are necessary for us to establish a direction in our lives or a purpose for them. Without emotions you would be hollow and if you must still perform tasks then you'd be little more than a slave to whoever directs you.
