my solicitors advised me to tell the police i would not be paying a fine for trespass. which i did. all right then, it's going to court. all kicking off. will fight it to the bitter end.
here is what ultimately happened:
nothing. as in, actually nothing. CPS took a while to get back to me with an automated response, police never followed it up, no court dates, nothing. years later i was worried a DBS check might re-open it all, but it came back clear.
there are plenty of examples of overzealous policing in this country, but those are the ones that make it into the papers or onto social media. i think it becomes easy to ignore the silent majority of similar cases, where nothing actually happens.
