Kaworu is a manifestation of Shinji's ideal self. He's who Shinji wishes he was. He's not real, he's also an angel built specifically to make coward Shinji lower his guard. He's one of the most fucked up things in eva in my opinion. I find it weird that people idealize him. He never had any emotion or objective other than to manipulate Shinji.
