if i barely made it through even while doing that then i think the ruleset is pretty well tuned for it lol. its balanced against the fact that your money for potions is limited, so if you cheese your way through early battles with it then you wont have enough potions for the elite four.
i probably could have looked around more for held items and TMs and stuff to boost my guys as well as nuggets and the like to sell for money for stuff, but i was pretty well maxxed out in terms of getting all the experience i could get without grinding.
i THINK i even got the shiny caterpie as the first pokemon on the route according to proper nuzlocke rules, tho i could be wrong...but i would certainly add an exception that youre allowed to catch and use any shiny you see and train it up to the level of your current lowest level party member. (tho if it faints you still have to put it in teh box!! at least til after you beat the e4.)
emerald is prob the funnest to do this with cause you can do battle tower stuff after the e4 with your best guys whether they "died" or not. i wanna do it again now. idk if i still have the save file with the shiny butterfree, it might be in my backups of my phone files somewhere but idk...sad if its gone. anyway v fun. i will promote my butterspeed rules as neat challenge perhaps, now that ive written it all up finally lol.
