I feel like unfettered internet access itself wasn't a problem at all in our time. In the 2000's I think we mostly we used that screentime just playing games on Newgrounds and Addictinggames, watching flash animations of stick figures kicking eachothers asses, and maybe writing down GTA cheats for later. The internet was just a place to visit and then when you left the computer room the internet didn't follow you. The real problem is that social media brought normies to the internet, and now everyone with a facebook/instagram/tiktok/etc is tryharding their every waking moment to broadcast their irl presence to the internet, using it as a platform to market themselves for likes/followers or whatever. Kids are doing that lame shit instead of using the internet in a healthy way. Social media is the real issue. The access itself isn't a problem if you can just get your kid playing Bloons Tower Defense or something instead of doing retarded tiktok dances for internet attention. They'll never understand how different it used to be, I feel sorry for these kids, but at least yours has a dad that cares enough to not just let the ipad babysit. Good luck Anon, this is a tricky issue for a modern parent to deal with, but the first step 99% modern parents seem to miss is to give a shit at all, so you're on the right track
