The rune "Jeera" or "Jeran" or "Jeraz" is part of the Eldar Futhark runic alphabet. The reconstructed common Germanic name "Jeran" is the origin of the English "year" (Old English "geear"). In contrast to the modern word, it had a meaning of "season" and specifically "harvest" and hence the meaning of the rune stood for "plenty, prosperity." It is cognate with the Greek "horos" meaning "year" and "hora" meaning "season," Old East Slavic "Jara" meaning "Spring" or in Latin, "Hoornus" meaning "of this year," as well as the liturgical Iranian language of Zoroastrianism, "Yaara," meaning "year," all stemming from a Proto Indo-European word "Yer-o."
