Joseph Stalin wasn't "the communists". All totalitarian regimes are going to have special prisons for dissidents.
The thing you have to understand about capitalism is any time the quarterly profits aren't going up, it's a failure and they panic.
A stable society is horrible for capitalism and corporations. Those profit lines need to go up and go up sharply or corporate funding dries up.
