I've worked a lot in my life too, it's one reason my studies are 1 year delayed. Neither manual labor or office work with emails is as depressing to me as trying to finish my masters. But maybe a long-term job for years and decades will depress me differently.

That's true, but it's a status signal at least. Giving up halfway would lower my status a lot. I'm from a minority that values degrees a lot.
