Because psych patients can be forcibly drugged, on the basis that it's supposedly in their interest. If we do that, then we might as well forcibly feed people vegetables, again on the basis that it's supposedly in their interest. In reality we DON'T force feed vegetables to people because we recognise that it's inhumane.
Perhaps if a drug is the only possible way to relieve someone's bad mental state then it might be warranted but I think in that case there should be efforts to help that patient make an informed choice as soon as possible. I have seen mental patients who ended up in hospital for many months, being drugged over and over again, and they didn't want it. It didn't seem to help them.
