In criminal law it does and must.
It's entirely what the burden of proof standard "Beyond a reasonable doubt" means.
Because the second it isn't considered the objective truth, that means there is an existence of some form of doubt, therefore the court should treat the person as innocent as the prosecutor has not met the standard to convict.
