Selectors would never tolerate dropping a proper 6 for Warne and his terrible batting. Apart from NZ and England (weirdly) he was absolutely rubbish. Would have also caused problems getting Ponting, Martyn and Clarke in the side as that's generally where non-openers would slot in early in their career.
