Consensus top 20 prospects are usually solid major leaguers (distance to the show matters of course). Yes, there are gaps between statistical analysis and traditional scouting. But there's a reason guys like Cistulli (who was one of the first to loudly champion Betts pre-breakout) is still in a ML front office.

There are industry misses all the time. Trout was the Angels' 2nd pick in his draft. Baseball is fucking hard, but to say you can't predict it at all is silly.
