He got rocked numerous times and was slugging with a known blob with no athletic cell in his body. Compare his performance to Sergei's and it's obviously an embarrassing performance. Think about the fact that he was one punch away from handing Tai a title shot against Jon Jones.
He lost R2 against Volkov and got rocked in that fight too, Volkov landed the only significant strike in that round. And yes, control time matters when there is no damage. Gane holding onto a nothingburger kimura to prevent a mount is not offence. He objectively lost based off of the scoring criteria, it's not my opinion.Even Dana himself (who has every reason to glaze Gane as he's Jon's only "good" win at HW) said he lost the fight.
