When I played I was scared to do that, as it would be a waste of an at bat if I just grounded out without trying to figure out the pitcher.
I don't mind when big leaguers do it, unless they do something retarded like swinging when the runner on first has a great jump off the base, and they foul the ball off, and now you don't have a guy in scoring position.
