The AFL can and has blocked trades and free agency moves if it deems in unfeasible. If Lions match a salary they cannot realistically afford to force a trade, even if they never intend to have that on their books, the AFL may block it.

The Lions won't have any trouble manufacturing the picks for Annable, even if they did have to trade for Allen. Are you happy for the Lions to trade for Allen though? Anything you get in a trade won't come close to pick 2 in value.
