It’s because colleges simplified their offenses and started recruiting running black qbs instead of big arm/brain white qbs. Everyone knew that the trend towards smaller and faster defenders to keep up with route runners in the pass heavy era we just came out of would open up the running game one day. Now it’s one day and running the ball is easier than throwing it. Especially for the QB
