I now realize why Djoko is still playing when he has nothing left to prove. It's cementing his legacy.
If Djoko wasn't playing, we'd have nothing as a comparison to rank Sinner/Alcaraz. We'd be more willing to say "yeah, they're just head-and-shoulders above the rest, just like the big3 were."
But Djoko still playing and still being number 3 only shows how weak the rest of the bunch are. Djoko staying and competing at this "level" is only possible because of a weak field. This is cementing his legacy, and hurting sinner/alcaraz's.
