Interesting. I can't remember how it is in the UK as I haven't played amateur since I was 14, but we must have something similar these days. I played for my school and university first teams where we didn't have registries etc.
I'm going to start training with my local team in the next month or so hopefully. They're very open, do lots of stuff for the community and are well organised so it should be fun.
