If he escaped in the end then he must have severed that connection, but we have so little fluff about what actually happened, not to mention how that little we think to know is actually hearsay about fanfictions from one author on twitter, or about books nobody is going to bother to read, that we cannot even take for granted he actually escaped, maybe he died and only his wife and children left the planet, who knows, but more importantly, who cares.
