>Why the fuck would you be?
Because it’s my natural disposition. I don’t choose to be optimistic, it just happens to be the case that I’m always hopeful about the future and willing to give things the benefit of the doubt. Am I often disappointed? Sure. But that disappointment doesn’t sting any more than it would if I spent all my time moaning about how awful everything is and will be.
I can be realistic about things. I can recognize that there is a trend implied by Thunder Junction, Duskmourn, Aetherdrift, Final Fantasy, and Edge of Eternities all looking like complete garbage and all being sets that I skipped. I can acknowledge that today’s design and art teams aren’t the same as yesterday’s. But I can also look at sets like Bloomburrow—another set that leaned on more fanciful, storybook themes, like Lorwyn—and Tarkir—another set that returned to a fan-favorite plane that had been left in a somewhat uncertain state—and see that both were executed well, even if there were still choices I wouldn’t have made and some directions that I wasn’t fond of.
