In as few words as possible without going into other setting autism: the longer it has been in use for, the faster/easier it'll be to train with. For a martial class who have to train to fight for a living, it seems like a worthwhile expense that only becomes more worthwhile as the sword gets older.

As long as it's the same metal, it counts as the same sword, even if it's been melted down. Honestly this is more what I had in mind regarding remaking them.
