They're peak human for their respective settings.
If you want to take it a step further, you could use a setting like Pathfinder or DnD as an example of normal, peak humans besting monsters.
Fighters and Rogues are normal humans who've trained their bodies to their physical peak. They then use magical gear, magical weapons, magical armor, martial skill, tactics, and their own shrewdness to best the enemies.
If you go back to mythology, it's also like this.
Do you think Sigurd, Saint George, or Siegfried needed super powers to beat a Dragon?
Do you think Perseus needed super powers to beat Medusa?
Do you think King Arthur and Lancelot needed super powers to beat giants?
Do you think Odysseus needed powers to beat the monsters he came across?
If they did, they would've thrown up their arms and said "it's over", I can't beat them, because their stats are higher. But no, they didn't. They preserved. They gave it their all. And they won IN SPITE of having no powers
