Earlier in the thread we surmised that while it seems like there's several female heads we've only seen one female shield amongst a bunch of different designs. So I don't think that'll be mandatory either.
If anything the artillery piece still seems to be the only problem as it doesn't seem to come with it's own headswap.
But I do agree with you that the DEI is awful. It just seems like it's not mandatory, save for the space on the sprue.
