Manga may be outselling American comics, but I doubt it's due to kids. Kids probably will be far more likely to watch the anime and ignore the manga. I don't think there's any way to bring kids back to action figures or comics. These are old mediums from the early 1900s, being supplanted by new mediums that cater more to humans with more visceral inputs like movement, music, vocals, etc. that help convey the stories better to those who don't want to bother with imagination.
