Daniel is genuinely autistic.
He's doing the same thing Cole did when he was isolating himself and crashing out pining for JC. Except Cole is just better as fish: his idiom was naturally charismatic for the camera and was eager to talk openly to the fans because he's got an urge to entertain or self express or something (why else would he make campfire guitar videos?) And despite these advantages Cole left early, so Daniel shouldn't expect to do the same thing.
Daniel doesn't have a past fish to follow, other than maybe Simbal's villain role.
