But why did that change? Social media. It created people to band together immediately, when it was difficult beforehand. You had to be very dedicated to create a media watch dog group in the 80s and 90s so it was mostly the religious conservatives. And social media promotes self-serving moral entrepreneurs who want to self-advance themselves by moral grandstanidng. So it doesn't improve anything... merely enforce "theory" and those who promote it.
