What's ironic is that no one actually gave a fuck and genuinely weren't racist in Britain back then, because there were no immigrants. Black soldiers famously were welcomed during the war and there was friction between white Brits and white Americans over the absence of segregation. It wasn't until the 1950s and later until racism became popualar because now people actually had to live with them and started to realise the Americans were right all along.
