>and intentionally goes out of its way to be as dark, bleak and miserable as possible
Absolutely not true. FWWM is still the darkest Twin Peaks ever got.
>and avoids any and all fan service
There is fan service, it's just done in an unconventional way. There's cherry pie scenes, there's coffee worship scenes, all of this is in there it just isn't done in the way a netflix audience would want it done.
>the cozy vibes and music, the basic humanity of the characters, the lightheartedness, the eccentric and random storylines
All of this is in there. The Las Vegas storyline and Dougie Jones has a ton of warmth, is super comfy and a lot of fun. Again it's unconventional and it's not the old show but its there.
> I don't just want 100% dark intense bleak and nihilistic surrealness
Again, it very much is not this. The thing I was most surprised by back in 2017 when it first aired was how funny it was. I more or less expected the show to be FWWM meets Inland Empire in tone, and it certainly has commonalities with both but it's not all bleakness, it's not all austere. It's a ton of fun, it's a wild journey that you will not be able to predict.
a reboot who's only ambition is to emulate the original is never going to be worthwhile, it is going to be forgotten the minute after its been "consumed" Twin Peaks The Return is something original, and yeah it won't be the same show but 30 years passed, it shouldn't be the same show. Watch it, there quite literally is nothing like it.
